What We Do

Beach, River, & Trail Cleanups
Our mission is bigger than just picking up trash — we’re here to build an army of volunteers who are passionate about protecting this place we all love. We aim to unite and support the many incredible organizations already doing vital work across our region, and work together to expand the impact of our collective efforts.
From the shores of Lake Tahoe and Donner Lake to the winding stretches of the Truckee River — including the popular rafting corridor from Tahoe City to River Ranch and the scenic Legacy Trail — to the hiking trails that weave through the Tahoe Truckee region, we’re committed to keeping our outdoor spaces clean, safe, and beautiful for everyone.
Whether you're a local resident, weekend visitor, student, or business owner, there’s a way for you to get involved. By working side by side, we’re not just removing litter — we’re restoring pride, protecting ecosystems, and building a more connected and conscientious community.
Together, we’re not just cleaning up. We’re showing up.

Raising Awareness
We believe that keeping our community clean is a shared responsibility — one that starts with awareness and leads to action. Whether you live here year-round, are visiting for the weekend, or are raising the next generation of environmental stewards, we all play a part in protecting the beauty that surrounds us.
We’re committed to educating locals, visitors, schools, and the LatinX community about the simple, powerful practices that make a difference: Pack it in, pack it out. Secure your trash, double-check your picnic spot, and be mindful that even a light breeze can carry away a forgotten wrapper or bottle cap. Most litter isn’t left behind intentionally — it happens by accident. But small changes in behavior can lead to big results.
Through school partnerships, bilingual education, cleanup events, and community-led outreach, we’re creating a culture of care, one conversation and one cleanup at a time. When we raise awareness and act together, we create cleaner trails, healthier lakes, and a legacy of stewardship for all who call this place home — or home for the weekend.
Together, we’re not just picking up trash. We’re picking up the responsibility to protect what we love.

Juntos, no solo recogemos basura.
Become a TRASH HERO!
When you become a Trash Hero, you’re not just picking up litter — you’re stepping into a community that protects the natural beauty of Tahoe and Truckee for generations to come. Whether it’s one piece of trash or one hour of your time, your actions inspire others, create cleaner spaces, and spark meaningful change. Join our alliance of visitors, locals, adventurers, and eco-warriors who are committed to leaving every trail, beach, and neighborhood better than they found it. Together, we can transform small acts into a powerful movement!
